2017 Fine Arts Scholarships

Please read the application and the questions very carefully. The essay questions and video will help us to better know and assess your talent level.  A maximum of 10 applicants will be invited to the final auditions in April, so do your best to showcase your talent and interest. 

Scholarship Awards for 2017

Up to $8000 will be awarded.


Application requirements: (for 2017)
1) Student must be a graduating high school senior planning on 
MAJORING or MINORING in the fine arts at a college, university, or a technical college in the fall of 2017.
2) Student must attend Duluth High School, Peachtree Ridge High School or North Gwinnett High School.  Any student attending other high schools/home schools may apply if he/she has a Duluth, GA, home mailing address.
3) Student must be a United States citizen or a LEGAL alien resident - documentation must be available.
4) Student must be a degree/certificate candidate at his or her college or university.
5) Fine arts categories include the following:
  • Music including choral, instrumental, strings, brass, woodwinds, piano and percussion.
  • Visual arts including art, graphic arts, and photography.
  • Performing arts including theater and dance.
6) Proof of a college acceptance must be received by March 31, 2017.
7) A completed and submitted application must be received by Sunday, March 19, at midnight.  Late entries or incomplete applications will NOT be accepted.
8) A one minute video showcasing your talent must be submitted to this site by March 19.

9) The 10 finalists are required to have a head shot taken with our photographer, Mary Buck, at Lightscapes Photographic Artwork, 3883 Rogers Bridge Rd. NW Suite 201B,  Duluth, GA 30097.  Appointment times are March 30 at 5 P.M. No phone calls are necessary.
The student will need to sign a model release so photographs can be placed on the DFAL website.
10)  All applications must be submitted online prior to the application deadline.
11) A recommendation from your art/music teacher is recommended but optional. These recommendations should be emailed to: peggysmith@hotmail.com

Interviews and auditions:

 Interviews and performances are scheduled for
Wednesday, April 19,  from 6:30-10:00 p.m. Auditions will be held in front of a live audience and a panel of professional judges. The audition is mandatory and re-scheduling will not be allowed.   Ten (10) finalists will be invited to the audition based on their application and essay answers.  Each finalist will have a maximum time limit of ten (10) minutes to perform.  Music students should perform something suitable for a college audition. Visual arts students should provide a PowerPoint slide presentation of their body of work, in addition to bringing up to 3 pieces of original artwork that demonstrates their talent.  Framing is not necessary, but each piece should be appropriately matted and mounted on foam board.   Theater or dance students should perform something on stage that demonstrates their best talent level.  The auditions will be held at the Red Clay Theater in downtown Duluth. All musical accompaniment (except live piano) must be pre-recorded on a CD and turned in 3 days prior to the final auditions.  Group projects will NOT be accepted.
